Description
Simple Songs is the latest and greatest from modern-day musical renaissance man, Jim O’Rourke. Reputed from his long-time work in the experimental music fields, but also as a member of Sonic Youth and producer of albums by the likes of Wilco and Beth Orton, among many others, he released a series of amazing solo albums on the Drag City label in the ’90s/’00s, but hasn’t released anything since 2009. O’Rourke’s solo albums are often a far cry from his experimentalist reputation, drawing on his love for the works of Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks, the orchestral melodies of the Walker Brothers, the songcraft of Steely Dan and the finger-picking of his idol, John Fahey. Most of all, Simple Songs demonstrates O’Rourke’s ability to pen a truly great SONG.
